Last week, former Illinois EPA Director Renee Cipriano, who heads the expert team cleaning up the old mental health center site, joined our community-driven Remediate 280 Committee meeting to update on Phase 2 of the extensive project. Phase 2 will be fueled by an additional $18 million in state grant funding that will ensure we clean up all 280 acres with what our laws require. Phase 2 will begin by undergoing a new bidding process for the remainder of abatement and demolition work at the site while other environmental work continues.
